Welcome to my writing groups.Writers who have studied with me are organizing group writing dates that will meet regularly. These groups are free and open to everyone.Group "writing dates" are not for critiquing. They're an opportunity to write with company. It has been my experience, with my own writing practice and several hundred students, that isolation is the main ingredient of writing blocks. If all you do is meet another writer once a week to write for thirty minutes, your entire practice …
Writing, whether for fun or profit, can be a lonely business. That's why it's nice to have other writers to hang out with, share what we're working on and, basically, keep us company while we write. I often find it hard to stick with a writing assignment at home, and have often thought "Wouldn't it be great to have a writing buddy to work alongside, each on our own project?" That's what I hope Writing with Friends can be for us all. A way to set aside time to either meet and share, write just fo …
Shut Up and Write! Meetup is a venue for writers to work in the company of other writers on a regular basis. Writing, whether approached as a profession or as an avocation, is an isolating activity. We provide this forum, writing resources and meeting times as a method of developing a community of creative people. We welcome people who are serious about ‘writing down the bones’ and are looking for the companionship of other writers. Meetup Format Making the time to write one hour per week is an …

YOU: You like to write. You live for caffeine. You look forward to rainy days. You enjoy sharing ideas with other writers. You like the idea of 'writing circles,' as the Brits say, with regular meetings and a creative energy. ME: I am a 2008 Creative Writing graduate hoping to find others like me on Staten Island. I want to form a community of writers who will meet weekly for inspiration, conversation or just group writing sessions. THE SPACE: A beautiful coffee house/ art gallery with plenty of …
When I was looking for members to join an established writing group of which I am part, I found there were many people who wanted a group for the beginning or novice writer. I started this group for those who might be intimidated by authors they feel are further along in their writing. I will be facilitating the group by giving writing assignments and exercises to those who would like them. I will also guide the group in their critiques which can be helpful to new writers and new groups in gen …

This is a group for writers who want to master powerful strategies to write better. The organizer, Charles Euchner, is a former teacher and administrator at Yale and Harvard and the author of a number of acclaimed works on politics, sports, civil rights, and more. The approach: Euchner has developed what he called a "brain-based system" for writing well. What's that mean? It means that if you understand how the brain works -- how the brain gets engaged or confused, what makes it excited or bore …
Writing Hemingway/Fitzgerald We are a group of serious minded writers focused on publishing our work; socializing takes place outside the meetup time. Members rarely miss a meetup. We keep in small groups where everyone knows your name and you are an integral part of the discussions. Nobody is meant to feel like they are a beginner or an outsider. We are one of the few groups that meet at an urban writers colony in Manhattan. This gives us exposure to many successful writers who publish …
Proprioceptive Writing (PW) is a method for exploring the psyche through writing. Easy enough for anyone to learn it, PW is practiced to music in 25-minute sessions, under stress-free conditions, alone or in groups. Through a process we call “Inner Hearing,” PW teaches you to listen to your thoughts with empathy and curiosity and reflect on them in writing. Practiced regularly, this simple yet powerfully effective method gradually opens a path to self-trust. Other frequently reported benefits in …

This group is for those wanting to express themselves through writing. This group will help you learn the art of writing, how to find your voice, and receive encouragement as you hone your craft. Together, we’ll learn to improve our craft. We’ll share what we have written, get ideas on how to change from writing in a writer’s perspective to writing in a reader’s perspective, and grow as a group. This writer’s circle will also educate you through workshops and speakers. You’ll be able to exchange …

This meet-up is for those who want to write and read. Members should be at least 16 years of age, willing to write in silence for 20-30 minutes and respectful of others' work and perspectives. I decided to create this meetup because I miss writing poetry and have found that focus and clarity improve when you write with others. **This is NOT a workshop and NOT a therapy experience. It's a casual and small meetup for New York City locals. As pleased as I am for the interest, I'm afraid the availab …
An informal writing group based in Brooklyn. Our mission is to provide a support group and creative outlet for inspiring writers.
I decided to start this group to help the solo entrepreneur or published writer get to the next level. This is NOT a writing group. This is about the business of publishing. The level where you don't have to worry about attracting agents or publishers, but when where you pull them to you. The purpose of this group is: 1) To get off social media and meet contacts face to face 2) To get resources and information to make your publishing goals a reality and no longer "a thing" you want to do 3 …

An ongoing group of writers that meets every Monday night at a restaurant in White Plains. Two people submit every week and the group reviews their work and discusses it at the meeting. Meetings are usually two hours. A writer will on average submit once a month. Before being admitted to the group, we require a writing sample. Any representative work will be fine. It doesn't have to be long.

At our meetings we write for thirty-minute stretches with ten-minute breaks. That's all. Bring your notebook, clay tablet, laptop, whatever you write on. Some write fiction, some write memoir, some write encyclopedia entries. It's up to you. There's no pressure to share or critique, but there are opportunities. This is mostly just a way to provide a comfortable environment for writing that's not so lonely. You can write whatever you wish, of course, but there will be writing prompts, if you' …
