I love to write. While living in Austin, I attended a meetup for writers. I was able to finish and self publish my first book due to committing to showing up write every week for an hour. We will meet at a quiet coffee shop for 9 minutes. The first half hour will consist of talking about our writing and any helpful info about publishing and seminars. The last hour is writing uninterrupted. A lot can get accomplished in an hour. I did it once and I plan to use this method for my second book. This …

Shut Up and Write! Meetup is a venue for writers to work in the company of other writers on a regular basis. Writing, whether approached as a profession or as an avocation, is an isolating activity. We provide this forum, writing resources and meeting times as a method of developing a community of creative people. We welcome people who are serious about ‘writing down the bones’ and are looking for the companionship of other writers. Meetup Format Making the time to write one hour per week is a …

Write with me..... I want to be your partner, can't you see.... Welcome to "Write that Novel." We are a small group of novelists who meet twice a week to motivate, support, and provide accountability for each other's writing. I like to keep the membership small with a very committed group of authors. If you are looking to actually get your novel done, come join us. We'll help you get there.

Hi! I'm brand-new to San Francisco and after trying out three writing groups, I decided that it might be fun to start one of my own. A bit about me: I am a graduate student in marriage and family therapy. I write mostly poetry, but also dabble in fiction. When I was living in New Hampshire, I was a member of a group called Feeding the Writer, and I found that it's format really worked well. I was thinking it might be fun to try it out here in SF, with some modifications based on the preferences …

This group is for all the writers who are in the "trying to be" stage of reaching the official status of "writers." Writing can be for a book, blog, magazine article, op-ed in newspaper, etc. Let's get together and write, critique each other's works, discuss writing styles, the challenges of being a writer, and the joys.
We are a group of writers who are seriously dedicated to the process and content of our writing. Some of us work professionally as writers and also have different creative genres of writing that we are working on (novels, scripts, essays, memoirs, travel writing, and more). Others work in different professions but have writing projects they are deeply committed to. We encourage, inspire, critique each other, and also network. We meet at least once a month, so far on Saturday afternoons, for abou …

Writing offers a way for people to connect to deeper, wiser aspects of ourselves – a way for us to find out, as the poet Audre Lorde said, “what we didn’t know we knew.” Almost every writer has experienced mysterious moments when the words that flow from our pens, or from our fingers on a keyboard, seem as if they come from someplace else – a place beyond our small human selves. Sometimes, when we let it happen, it’s as if the words become a little boat, a raft on which we can sail in a large …
"Don't tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass. " ~Anton Chekhov There are a lot of writing groups that get together to write and read work. This is not one of those groups. This group is inspired by Dorothea Brande's classic bestselling reference book "Becoming A Writer" that focuses on removing the unconscious impediments that lead us would-be writers to falsely believe that writers are born, and not made. It's about acting, feeling and thinking like a writer to …
Parents, Imagine your teen being in a well-lit room full of aspiring writers, where everyone is talking excitedly and laughing. Some people are reading their stories out loud; others are asking for feedback on their blog posts and college essays. Everyone is working on a special piece for the Annual Teen Writers Anthology. The energy is contagious. Is your teen curious about joining a group of Teen Writers who share their passion for writing? As a parent, would you like to encourage their writi …

A few of us (well, two) aspiring science fiction/fantasy writers were looking for a serious critique and write-sharing group to join. We thought, hey, lots of people in Berkeley must love sci-fi...we just have to find them and get them in a cafe. The group is open to anyone who is writing in the genre or who enjoys it enough to read other people's writing and provide serious and supportive critique. What kind of writing? Screenplays, novels, short stories, YA...you name it. We share our writing …

… You'll hand over the piece of writing that you brought to share, just like everybody else did, and a skilled orator will begin to read a story from the top of the recently collected stack. You'll listen. When the story is over each person present will take a turn to say something like, "I liked that line about purple pansies tearing off their yellow masks..." or "I was a little confused by the third paragraph, I couldn't understand whether it was your mother or the monkey who poisoned the lasagn …

When I, among a group of concerned citizens, visited Senator Feinstein's office in Washington DC, her aide who met with us said that he could not stress enough the power of letter-writing. Noting the disparity between what most people want and what is being legislated, I started hosting letter-writing parties, including a potluck dinner and piano recital. (I have a concert grand piano and have played Chopin, Rachmaninoff, and Gershwin at prior meetups). As a group, we start by discussing current …

What is this Meetup's purpose? Who should join? Why? Hello and welcome! I'm looking to meet with other authors in the San Francisco Bay Area that are writing and self publishing. If you're an author who is self published or is getting ready/interested in self publishing than join us to talk shop; however, the purpose of this club is to share ideas/strategies on self publishing and marketing our books. This is not a writing critique club and we're not focusing on "how to write". There are plent …
